In October 2007, Friends contributed $1,600 to Farmingdale Citizens for Viable Solutions. The donation provided much-needed assistance to day laborers and their families who frequent the group’s center. Members of Students for 60,000 have been supporters of FCVS since 2004, including purchasing clothing and work boots. In addition, 10-12 students visit the center every Monday evening to socialize and teach English. Friends also contributed $1,600 to the Huntington Interfaith Homeless Initiative for a photography project in which the photographers were all homeless day laborers in the area. Each received a camera, film and training from noted photographer Rob Goldman. The project was so successful that many of the photos were featured in Newsday and displayed Island-wide at many venues such as museums. Friends assisted 2006 club alumnus Eric Meyerowitz with the Harvard Project for Sustainable Development. Eric formed the organization, which focuses on educational and humanitarian assistance in central Nicaragua. Friends made a $200 contribution to the group and handled its banking until Harvard recognized the group.
